In short: this is a 33 cm (about 13 inch) jointed dog sewn by hand by the Russian artist Inna Budagyan. It is made from vintage plush, stuffed with sawdust the old-fashioned way, has glass eyes and cotter-pin joints, and wears clothes sewn from natural fabrics. It is listed on Like Art, a marketplace for real handmade dolls, teddies and art animals by 700+ artists.
How big is it?
About 33 cm, roughly the height of a standard school ruler. That is a comfortable size to sit on an armchair, a shelf or next to a collection of antique-style teddies.
Why sawdust and vintage plush?
That is how the classic teddy bears and plush animals of the early 20th century were made. Sawdust (wood wool style) stuffing gives the dog a firm, slightly heavy body that holds its shape, and vintage plush gives it the soft, slightly worn look of an old family toy. It is a deliberate, traditional technique rather than modern polyester fibre.
Do the legs and head move?
Yes. The artist joined the parts with cotter pins, the traditional fastening used in jointed teddy bears, so the head and limbs can turn and the dog can sit or stand in different poses.
What is it wearing?
The dog comes dressed in clothes the artist sewed from natural fabrics, which suits the vintage character of the piece. The listed materials are plush, cotton and sawdust.
Is it a toy for children?
It is better treated as a collectible for adults. Glass eyes, metal joints and sawdust stuffing are part of the traditional craft, but they make it a piece for display and careful handling rather than for young children.
Is shipping included?
According to the artist's listing, the shipping cost is included in the price. The current price, all photos and the full description are on the product page.
