There is a specific moment we kept running into when talking to doll makers: the piece is finished, it is photographed, it goes in a cabinet or a box, and almost nobody outside a small circle ever sees it move through a room.
So here is the practical version of how the 3D side works on Like Art, for anyone who makes dolls and is curious.
1. Photographs first
We need a clean set of photos of the finished doll: front, three-quarter, side, back. A plain background helps. The photos are the reference — they are what the 3D model has to look like when it is done.
2. A standing pose is fine, but the face is what matters
The model is built and rigged, which means it needs to be reconstructed in a neutral standing pose. That is a technical constraint, not an aesthetic one. What we refuse to change is the face: same eyes, same painted lashes, same expression, same skin tone. If the reconstruction comes back looking like a different, generic doll, it gets sent back.
3. Clothing, texture, imperfections stay
Fabric prints, the sheen of baked polymer clay, the slightly uneven hem — those are the things people recognise. We keep them.
4. The doll gets eight animations
Standing, idle (a small breathing motion, not a dance), walking, running, sitting, and a few gestures. Nothing exaggerated: the point is that it looks like your doll doing ordinary things.
5. It goes into the world
From there the character can be selected in The Doll World, walked around, and met by other collectors. The artist keeps control — approval is required before a doll becomes a character, and it can be taken down.
What it costs
For artists on the platform, the reconstruction is part of the catalogue process, not an extra product. What we ask in return is the photo set and a couple of minutes of review when the model comes back.
If you make art dolls — polymer clay, porcelain, ball-jointed, textile, whatever the material — the submission form is here:

And if you just want to see what the result looks like, walk in and look around. It runs in a browser, on a phone, with no install.
