Like Art — Handmade Dolls & The Doll World

Three dolls from one workshop: a pumpkin gentleman, a little witch, and a bear named Tosha

Some dolls arrive in families. Marina Guznova, who works in Russia, sent us three pieces that clearly belong to the same small universe — two pumpkin folk and a bear who looks like he is in charge of them.

Тыквик Берт ("Pumpkin Bert"), 22 cm. A gentleman in a waistcoat with a carved-pumpkin face, painted by hand. The sort of doll that looks like it has opinions.

Тыковка Ведьмочка ("Little Pumpkin Witch"), 18 cm. The same family, smaller, with a pointed hat and the slightly crooked smile that makes these pieces work — she is not cute in a manufactured way, she is cute the way a real hand-made thing is.

Тедди Мишка Тоша ("Tosha the Teddy Bear"), 14 cm. A classic jointed bear, mohair texture, small enough to sit on a shelf edge.

What we like about this set is that it is not themed decoration, it is a world: three characters with a shared visual language, made by one person, in one workshop, over weeks. That is exactly the kind of work that benefits most from the 3D side of Like Art — because a collector can see a photograph of a 22 cm pumpkin gentleman, but they cannot see how he stands, how the coat moves, or what he looks like next to the witch.

On Like Art, artists can have their approved pieces reconstructed as 3D characters, and those characters can be walked around in The Doll World. One doll at a time, with the artist's approval.
